An anthropologist once proposed a game to children in an African tribe. He placed a basket of sweet fruits near a tree and told them that whoever reached it first would win the fruits. When he gave the signal to run, the children took each other’s hands and ran together, then sat in a circle to enjoy their treats. When asked why they chose to run as a group instead of individually, one child replied, “UBUNTU, how can one of us be happy if all the others are sad?”

In Xhosa culture, ‘UBUNTU’ means: “I AM, Because WE ARE, and because we are, therefore, I AM,” emphasizing the interconnectedness of ALL.
